The Walgreens, St Louis MO residency program’s purpose is to enable residents to achieve their professional goals, become a leader within the profession, provide compassionate care for members of their communities, and contribute to Walgreens Company’s advancements in health care.

The resident will gain experience providing patient care and communicating with prescribers regarding specialty disease states including HIV, HCV, oncology, and solid organ transplant. The secondary practice site is at a high-volume retail location. This residency also emphasizes developing skills related to community outreach and professional advocacy.

The resident will have opportunities with both experiential and didactic teaching. The resident will develop and execute a lecture to pharmacy students, and have an opportunity to serve as a skills lab facilitator during the spring semester.

Residency Activities
-Disease state management in HIV/AIDS, hepatitis C, solid organ transplant, and oncology
-Develop and present community outreach presentations for patients, caregivers, and heathcare providers
-Medication therapy management (MTM)
-Recommend and administer routine and travel immunizations
-Enhance existing or develop new patient care programs
-Design and conduct independent, practice-based research
-Present research findings at regional and national meetings
-Provide clinical instruction to student pharmacists in didactic and experiential environments
-Gain pharmacy business and management leadership skills

Basic Qualifications

  • Doctor of Pharmacy degree from a college or school of pharmacy accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education
  • Ability to obtain pharmacist license within the state of residency within 90 days of the start of the residency program
  • Submission of residency application materials to Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service (PhORCAS)
  • Individuals must participate in and adhere to the rules of the ASHP Resident Matching Program.
  • Certified Immunizer or willing to become an immunizer within 90 days of hire
